Meals on Wheels for the Homebound and Seniors in the Van Alstyne Community
The Program is operated by Meals on Wheels of Texoma, through the Van Alstyne Senior Center. Hot meals are prepared at the Senior Center and delivered daily, Monday through Friday, plus frozen, microwaveable meals for the weekend. Additionally, the Program provides lunches in the Senior Center five days per week. While Meals on Wheels Texoma receives the majority of its funding through local and federal government programs, it relies on caring and dedicated community volunteers to deliver the meals every day.
Program touches the lives of 80 - 100 homebound, disabled and local seniors every day... 1,500+ meals every month.
Our church has supported this outreach ministry for 10+ years, virtually since its inception, through our members volunteering to deliver the meals to the homebound and those not able to prepare a hot meal each day. Additionally, our volunteer members have been heavily involved in renovating the Senior Center, organizing and participating in fund raisers for the Senior Center, leading activities for seniors in the Senior Center and serving on the Senior Center Board and volunteer advisory groups.
Meals on Wheels is supported by a number of churches and community organizations in Van Alstyne, so you do not have to be a church member to participate. If you drive, have a caring heart for the homebound and disabled qualifying for home delivered meals, and can commit a couple of hours each month, then becoming a volunteer is easy.
