Scott Holcomb-McLain was appointed to First United Methodist Church of Van Alstyne on July 1, 2012. He is a life long United Methodist and grew up in the small town of Goodview, Virginia, which is just outside of Roanoke. Scott is married to Pamela Holcomb-McLain, who is also an Elder (Honorably Located) in the United Methodist Church and a professional musician. Scott and Pam love being in Van Alstyne. They celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary in April of 2017. Scott's brother, sister, 3 nieces and 2 nephews still live in the Roanoke, Virginia area. Pam's parents live in Double Oak, Texas and her sister in Madison, WI.
Before coming to serve at First United Methodist Church of Van Alstyne, Scott served as pastor at First United Methodist Church of Heath for 5 1/3 years. He served Northgate United Methodist Church in Irving, Texas for 5 2/3 years. He held associate positions at First United Methodist Church of Richardson and Spring Valley United Methodist Church in Dallas for 1 year after transferring from the Virginia Annual Conference in 2000.
In Virginia, Scott served Grace Design United Methodist Church in Danville, Virginia for three years before requesting a transfer to Texas due to family health concerns. In Scott's first appointment, he served eight years on the Lakeland Charge (Epworth United Methodist Church and Oylers Chapel United Methodist Church) as a United Methodist Student Pastor while completing his education. He received his B.A. from Ferrum College in Religion and Psychology in June of 1991. He received his Masters of Divinity from the Duke Divinity School of Duke University in May of 1995. Pastor Scott was ordained a Deacon in June of 1993 and an Elder in June of 1997.
