Samantha grew up in an Air Force family and had to wait until she was a junior in high school to make it to Texas! She graduated from Southwest Texas State with a double major in International Studies and Spanish, thinking that she would join the Foreign Service or the CIA and continue moving every two or three years like she had when she grew up. By then though she had taken a few education classes to see if she liked them and fell in love with teaching! After graduating with a degree she didn't really want to use anymore (by then she had also fallen in love with Texas) she decided to go back to school at Southwest to get her elementary certification. Since 1997, she has taught pre-k through 2nd grade for schools in Killeen, Frisco, and Mckinney.
She and her family moved to Van Alstyne in June of 2014 from McKinney and joined FUMC this year. She and husband Rod have four children, twin boys Tanner and Tucker are going into sixth grade at VAMS and twin girls, Sadie and Piper, who will be in the 2 year old class at Wee School. When she isn't busy with her family Samantha loves to scrapbook, go for walks (not runs!) and enjoys working in her garden.
