Boy Scout Troop 44... Character Building since 1913.
Troop 44 has been in existence for the past 99+ years serving young men in the Van Alstyne community. Troop 44 is the 3rd oldest troop in Texas and the 5th oldest troop in the nation.
Our church has enjoyed a relationship with Troop 44 dating back to 1917. We are currently the Troop's sponsor. The Troop is a boy-run organization made up of several patrols. Leaders of each patrol form the Patrol Leaders Council. Scoutmasters function as mentors and counselors to the leaders. The Troop's activities include weekly meetings, monthly outings and a range of service projects.
Troop 44 currently has thirty young men in the Troop, ranging in age from 11 to 18.
The Troop meets once a week on Tuesdays, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at the Scout Hut. The Scout Hut is located at 183 Grays Trail in Van Alstyne. Click for Directions to Hut.
In 1913, Boy Scout Troop 1 (changed in the 1940s to Troop 44) in Van Alstyne received its charter.
Troop 44 is supported through donations. "Friends of Troop 44" is a local organization that helps with fund raising to support the Troop's activities. Anyone can participate and help in this effort.
Boy Scout Troop 44 lives by the Scout Oath and Law, its core belief in service to God, country and family and by its guiding principle that "scouting is a game with purpose".
